Previously only available digitally, A Hundred Tubes is an expansive process work initially released in 2012 by troubled by insects on Bandcamp. An early experiment in effect processing and textural atmospheres (aligning with the artist's early work on the Blue van Meer album cycle), across ten tracks snippets and soundbites are rendered unidentifiable and mashed into ambient soundscapes that are as violent and ominous as they are meditative. Creeping into that sonic melee are vicious, pulsating beats which propel these tracks into unknown spaces. A new track ("Intro") has been unearthed for this anniversary presentation on cassette.

A singular frequency provides feedback throughout a majority of these tracks, signaling an alarm that cannot be silenced, an inevitability that must be prepared for, if only for the sake of the shareholders and executives who have survived global catastrophe.

Deviating right away from previous work, Hopeless announces its arrival with the plaintive growl of a didgeridoo before stranding the listener in a thunderstorm, from which the crushing track “Crying” expands and engulfs in a haze of distorted guitar and Smith’s forlorn voice. Subsequent tracks find Smith at his most vocally dynamic (“Give” “Numb”), most stylistically diverse (from the quiet introspection of “Fog” to the full-blown agony of “Hopeless”), while maintaining a dark and sorrowful cohesion throughout the course of these nine tracks.
